The last resort extracts the PDF’s text layer and writes a simple .docx of paragraphs. The UI already says layout, tables, and images are not rebuilt—that matches the last-resort path.
What you download
Always a Word .docx. When the full converter succeeds, headings and simple layout have a better chance of surviving. When the text fallback runs, you get selectable wording in reading order: columns flatten, pictures disappear, tables become lines.

Scans and locked files
A photograph of a page has no text layer. The fallback then produces an empty or near-empty document. This site does not run OCR on this page. Password-protected files often fail until they are unlocked.
Data handling
The PDF leaves the browser. If the optional conversion API is enabled on the server, that provider also receives the file. We do not keep a permanent library of uploads. Do not send documents you are not allowed to share.

Will my formatting be preserved?
It depends on the conversion route available. Where a full document converter is present much of the structure is retained. Where it is not, the text is extracted and rebuilt as paragraphs, which gives you accurate editable text but loses the visual layout, columns, images and complex tables.
What is the maximum file size?
This page accepts a single PDF of up to 25 MB per conversion, and requests are limited to ten per minute from the same address.
Do you keep a copy of my PDF?
No. The file is uploaded only so we can convert it, then deleted as soon as the Word file is generated. We do not keep a library of uploaded PDFs or converted documents.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Not usefully. A scan has no text layer. This page does not run OCR. The last-resort converter would produce an empty or near-empty Word file.
Why is PDF to Word conversion imperfect?
A PDF records where marks sit on a page rather than what they mean. It does not necessarily mark a line as a heading or a table cell, so a converter has to infer that structure from position alone. That is why results vary between documents.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
Yes. This conversion cannot be done in the browser, so the PDF is uploaded to our server. It is used only to produce your download and is not kept as part of a permanent user file library. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Remove the password first using our lock and unlock tool, then convert the unprotected copy.
